I worked with Joe in the Thomas Hall cafeteria at EIU, Even though we haven't kept in touch over the ensuing years, I will always think of him as one of my best college friends. We Thomas Hall food service workers were one big family. He always had a smile on his face and an upbeat attitude. I was so saddened to learn of his Parkinson's disease and death at such a young age. I knew Joe during our college days at Eastern. At the end of our freshman year, a group of five guys and five girls went to Joe's home in Decatur to spend the weekend.
