Joseph Boniface Mickey's Obituary
Decatur – Joseph Boniface Mickey, 93, formerly of Decatur, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014 in Schaumburg, IL.
Joe was born September 28, 1920 in Oconee, IL, the son of Katherine A. Pollman and John B. Mickey. After growing up in Oconee, IL, he married Dorothy K. Mickey on June 26, 1948 in Pana, IL. After marriage, he and Dorothy moved to Decatur, IL where they lived for 60 years.
Joe was a member of Ss. James & Patrick Catholic Church in Decatur. He was an active volunteer for St. James School and Church as well as an active volunteer, coach and supporter of all his sons’ activities. He worked at A.W. Cash Valve Co. in Decatur, IL as a tool and die maker for 45 years, retiring in 1985. Dad’s work was interrupted when he joined the Navy during World War II.
He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (deceased), loving father of Mark (Mary) of Naperville, IL, Dennis (Margaret) of Barrington, IL and Marty (Janet) of Arlington Heights, IL; cherished grandfather of Brian (Christine) Mickey of Chicago, IL, Melissa Mickey of Chicago, IL, David (Melissa) Mickey of Wheaton, IL, Evan (Claire) Mickey of Bloomington, IN, Jason Mickey of Batavia, OH, Zachary Mickey of Naperville, IL, Rachel, Hannah, and Joseph Mickey of Arlington Heights, IL; proud great-grandfather of Olivia, Caroline and Connor Mickey of Chicago, IL, Tyler Mickey of Wheaton, IL and Margaret (Maggie) Mickey of Bloomington, IN; caring brother-in-law of Virginia (Robert) Kuhn of Oconee, IL, Donna Klein of Pana, IL and Lorraine Klein of Ohlman, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents, his sisters Gertrude (Vincent) Beyers, Lucille (Lloyd) Beyers and Monica (Delbert) Traughber and brother Clarence (Serena) Mickey.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; vigil prayer service will be at 3:30 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection celebrating Joe’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014 in St. James Catholic Church, Decatur, IL, Rev. David Peters celebrant. Entombment will follow in Mary Queen of Angels Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery.
