Joy Elizabeth Madsen's Obituary
Joy Elizabeth Madsen, 74, of Decatur, Ill., died on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Lincolnshire Place in Decatur. She was born on April 1, 1948, in Princeton, Ill., as the daughter of Al and Dorothy (Pierson) Doll.
Joy is survived by her husband, Tom, along with three children, Lyn (Darrin) Shasteen of Decatur, Ill., Amanda Madsen of Springfield, Ill., and Tyler (Danielle) Madsen of Jefferson City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Jarrod, Jacob (Holly) and Nick Shasteen, and Clayton and Aubrey Madsen. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Ben Shasteen.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Rose Tietz.
Joy grew up in Kewanee, Ill., and was employed by General Telephone & Electronics Corporation before working as a homemaker. She was married to Tom on July 7, 1973, in Kewanee, and the family moved to Chatham, Ill., before settling in Decatur.
She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church of Decatur and enjoyed spending time with family, making and serving desserts, and listening to music.
The family would like to extend its greatest appreciation to the staff at Lincolnshire Place for their outstanding and loving care of Joy.
A memorial service at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home in Decatur is scheduled for April 14 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association or Lincolnshire Place of Decatur.
