Judy Hogan Dougherty's Obituary
Decatur – Judy Hogan Dougherty, 70, of Decatur, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout her illness, she showed remarkable strength, grace, and faith, continuing to put others first and cherishing every moment with her family.
Judy was born on March 9, 1955, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Loomis) Hogan. She began her career as a social worker before pursuing her law degree, practicing as an attorney and certified mediator with a focus in marital and family law for over 30 years. During her career, she wrote and published several literary works and articles. A member of the Illinois State Bar Association, and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Judy was deeply devoted to helping others, especially through her advocacy for women’s rights and the protection of children. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. John Neumann, a role that reflected her faith and compassion.
Judy married George Turner (d. 2014) in 1988, and together they welcomed two beloved children, Deanne and George. In September 2015, Judy married her loving and supportive husband, Ed Dougherty of Decatur
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her children and her granddaughter, Isabela. She also loved flowers and gardening, playing cards and board games, and traveling.
Judy is survived by her husband, Ed Dougherty of Decatur; daughter Deanne (Christopher) Castro of Jacksonville, FL; son George (fiancé Nicole Miller) of Denver, CO; granddaughter Isabela; two sisters; one brother; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, George Turner.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 9th at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 11:30am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 1pm. Burial will follow on Wednesday, September 10th at 11am Assumption Cemetery, Wheaton, IL. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to DOVE, a domestic violence charity.
