Karen Johnson Lawrence's Obituary
Peoria - Karen Johnson Lawrence, 87, of Peoria IL, formerly of Decatur IL, peacefully entered eternal life on January 12, 2026.
Karen was born on September 19, 1938 in Decatur, IL. the youngest daughter of Isaac “Hez” Johnson and Lelah (Young) Johnson. She graduated from St. Teresa High School Class of 1956 and attended Eastern Illinois University receiving both an undergraduate and three master degrees.
Karen is survived by her daughter Lisa Lawrence.
In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her sister Nadine Bunker, and brother-in-law Harlan Bunker.
Karen loved the 40 plus years she dedicated to Decatur Public School District 61.
She loved card making, Stamping Up, shopping trips in Indianapolis and St Louis. She loved spending time with her red-headed grandchildren (Orlanda and Darby) who turned out to be a black and yellow lab!
Lisa would like to extend a special thank you to the crew at Buehler who helped continue the
practice of over loving (spoiling) Karen specifically Anna, Shonda and TJ.
A very small private service was held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Hall Cemetery, Blue Mound, IL.
