Bill and Family, I'm so sorry for your loss of Karen. We are cousins on her Mom's side. She was a sweetheart. I didn't know her as an adult as we have lived so far away from each other. Still, I remember her as the sweetest young lady. She took after her Mom. 2017 hasn't been a good year for us cousins. We share your loss.Kay (Scheibly) Stiles
Karen and I met in first grade at Excelsior South Grade School and became instant best buddies. From that time on, we were together in many activities: Brownies, Girl Scouts and band (both playing the alto sax). We would have adventures swimming at Nelson Park pool, snow sledding at Nelson Park, playing at Joyland (except for one time, right Gary??), camping with her folks, trick or treating between Beacon Drive and Thrush Avenue and cookouts at Spitler Woods Park with my folks. We talked our parents into letting us buy matching white go-go boots in fifth grade (which are proudly on display in our class photo). Junior High at Thomas Jefferson found us shopping (mostly looking) downtown. While at Lakeview High School, we tried to be proficient enough at Spanish to hold conversations while shopping (didn't work). I remember painting her nails the day before her wedding and reminiscing about our childhood memories. She was one of the most kind and sweet people I have ever met. We lived in the same neighborhood, we graduated together in 1974 from Lakeview High School. Karen and I shared many good memories, I lived on Hayden Drive and she lived the street over on Beacon. We were Spartanettes's :). I can see see Karen's smile that topped off her sweet personality. She will be missed by many, as she did touch many hearts, along her journey of life. I graduated from Lakeview High School in Decatur class of 1974 with Karen. Who knew she would become family when she married my cousin Bill.
