Katherine Elizabeth Walters' Obituary
Katherine E. Walters, resident of Dalton City, Illinois, daughter of Melvin and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Clark) Funk, died on March 3, 2018, just 10 days short of her 99th birthday, at the Generations at McKinley Court in Decatur, Illinois. She was born in Oakley, Illinois on March 13, 1919, and attended the Bois d’Arc one-room school house, Macon County.
As a youth, she received awards and certificates for handwriting and spelling. She married Victor Hugo Walters who preceded her in death in July 1959. Mrs. Walters always had a big garden, loved caring for flowers and enjoyed birdwatching, sewing, and caring for her family. Her church and her family were her life.
She worked as a waitress in several restaurants in Dalton City, and sewing factories in Decatur, and did home health care in her later years. As a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Decatur, Illinois, for more than 70 years, she served as a Sabbath Day School Teacher, Deaconess, and tried her best to be faithful in attendance as long as possible.
Her husband, Victor, her daughter, Judy Howard, three step sons, a daughter-in-law; son-in-law, three brothers, one sister, and one grandson preceded her in death.
She will be sadly missed by her children Helen Fortner of Dalton City, Tommy (Marie) Walters of Mechanicsburg, Bob Walters of Taylorville, and Shirley (Gunner) Taylor of Arcola, 15 grandchildren, 36 great, 34 great/great grandchildren, and many friends.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Katherine will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 530 North Sunnyside Road, Decatur, IL 62522. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Township Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Seventh Day Adventist Church.
