Kathryn Elizabeth Bork's Obituary
Springfield – Kathryn (Katie) Elizabeth Pfile Bork , 97, formerly of Decatur, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Home in Springfield.
Kathryn was born on June 13, 1916 in Freeport, IL to Esrom Harry and Margaret Agatha Michel Pfile. The family moved to Decatur in 1926 where Kathryn attended and graduated from Miss Heller’s Beauty School. Kathryn was a beautician for over 50 years, her shop was in her home where she raised 8 children.
She married Henry Carl Bork on May 1, 1938 in St. Charles, MO. He preceded her in death on November 20, 2010. She was also preceded in death by a son, Lynn Carl Bork, great-grandson, Logan Michel Spears, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Kathryn was a member of St. James Church, Decatur, Our Lady of Lourdes, Decatur and Christ the King in Springfield. She most recently attended church at St. Joseph’s Home, Springfield.
Kathryn was active in TSE (talk, sew and eat club) with her family and friends for many years. She was also a member of NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees). She is a lifetime member of the National Association of Letter Carrier’s Auxiliary #153.
One of Kathryn’s favorite hobbies was sewing. She made all of her daughter’s wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses. Over the years she made many outfits for herself, her children and grandchildren. She always had a sewing or craft project that she was working on.
She is survived by her children: Sandra (Jud) Cameron of Sullivan, Sharon Mitchell of Kirkwood, MO, Shirly (Joseph) Unekis of Manhattan, KS, Sallee (Stan) Butzow of Pawnee, Terry of Dallas, TX, Sheryl (Jim) Spears of Auburn and Kent (Saundra) Bork of Garland, TX. There are 13 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Gladys Potter, Iowa City, IA and brother, Robert Pfile, Midland, TX.
Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her life will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Rev. Richard Weltin, celebrant. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the service time at the church. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Joseph’s Home, 3306 S. 6th St. Rd., Springfield, IL 62703.
