Kathryn Agnes O'Brien's Obituary
Kathryn Agnes O’Brien, 90, of Decatur, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009 in BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, IL.
Mrs. O’Brien was born October 15, 1918 near Pawnee, IL, the oldest daughter of John Clarence and Mayme Sheedy Abell. She married James W. O’Brien June 8, 1939 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Pawnee. For the first 21 years of their married life, they lived on a farm south of Taylorville before moving to Decatur in 1960. Kathryn worked outside the home for only ten years in sales for the Smallwood Uniform Co. retiring in 1983. She was a faithful member Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Franciscan Order of Lay Associates and Our Lady of Lourdes Visitation Circle. Kathryn loved to garden and crochet.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and was especially adored by all her great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren who held a special place in her heart
Surviving are her daughters: Karin Fisher of Mt. Zion, Sharon and husband John Alberts of Normal, Carol and husband Joe Harding of Decatur, Cheryl and husband John Eckert of Charlotte, N.C.; son, Deacon John Michael and wife Sandy O’Brien of Sullivan; 19 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; sisters: Geneva Abell of Taylorville and Thelma Goebel of Morrisonville; numerous nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends. She will be fondly remembered by all the lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James in 1992; brother, Robert; one granddaughter and two great grandsons.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church; vigil prayer service at 4:30 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 am, Monday April 13, 2009 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will follow at 1:30 pm in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Assumption, IL. Memorials: Our Lady of Lourdes Church or St. Teresa High School.
