Kay Smith's Obituary
Kay Arden Smith, 65, of Lavern, TN formerly of Decatur passed away on Monday, August 29, 2016.
Kay was born on August 30, 1950 in Tahlequah, OK, where she briefly lived as an infant. Her parents were Oliver Ryan & Pearl Bailey. She was the second of three children.
She attended Eisenhower High School, Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and Sangamon State. She earned her Bachelor Degree, and a Master Degree. She was a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority.
Kay retired from Webster Cantrell Hall, working in various positions with over 30 years of service. She was married to Eugene Smith (deceased) for 37 years. She was an active member of Living Word Evangelistic Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Marvin Joyner.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, (Stewart Bailey) and grandparents.
The most important part of her life was the birth of her only son, Tommy and the gift of his daughter, Eionna. Her granddaughter was her greatest joy.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her son Earl Tommy Smith, and special friend Danielle Page; sister, Janet L. Herrington; step-son, Eugene Smith Jr. and wife Yachika, grandchildren, Eionna Smith, Jaliyah Cotton, Jamaria Cotton, and great-grandchild, Rylin Cotton; step-grandchildren, Eugene Smith III, Kerron Cole, Unique Smith, Eunisha Smith; nephews, Jeff (Jessica) Bailey, Jason Bailey, Eric Bailey, Jaden Lawrence, and Ryan Bailey; nieces, Kara C. Herrington, Brittany (Brett) Burns, Ta’shiana Herrington, and Jai’a Herrington; sister-in-law, Wanda Bailey; cousin, Charles W. (Delores) Williams; and a host of other relatives, friends, and the Living Word Church family.
Homegoing Service to celebrate Kay’s life will be 11 am Friday, September 9, 2016 in Living Word Evangelistic Ministries, 1177 E. Henderson Ave. Decatur, IL with Pastor Marvin Joyner officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, 2801 N. Monroe Street, Decatur, IL. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park.
