Kenneth N. Mathews' Obituary
Mr. Kenneth N. Mathews, 65, slipped into eternal rest January 31, 2024, at his residence, surrounded by his loving wife Freda, his mother, and other family members.
Mr. Mathews was born in Gary, Indiana, the son of Margaret (Jelks) Mathews and the late Rev. Presse D. Mathews Jr. He was a kind, gentle, caring, loving man who loved his wife and family. Mr. Mathews attended Decatur Public Schools. He was a construction worker, building and repairing homes. He was a jack-of-all-trades. Anything that needed to be repaired or replaced at a house, he could do it.
Mr. Mathews loved to fish in his spare time. He and his cousins James Curtis Bond and Judge T. Phillips would spend hours on the fishing banks. He loved spending time helping others. If you needed him, he would always make himself available. He was a man of his word. If he said it, he would do it.
He leaves to hang onto his memories his loving wife of 19 years, Freda (Allston) Mathews; 5 daughters: Demetria Meyers, Ebony (Darrell) Burries, and Ebony Allston, all of Decatur, IL, Andrea Allston of Austell, GA, and his baby girl Jamie Mathews of Indianapolis, IN; 2 sons: Kenneth Meyers and Jermain Mathews of Decatur, IL; Margaret, his loving mother; 4 brothers: Presse (June) Mathews, Jerome Mathews Sr., Paul Ivy, and David Mathews; 4 sisters: Dee Mathews, Joylynn (Bryan) Mathews-Bond, Pamela Ingram, and Dawanda Mathews; and a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends.
His father, sister Debra (Buffy) Dozier, grandson Travion Pickens, sisters-in-law Deborah Williams and Inette Fuller, and maternal and paternal grandparents all preceded him in eternal rest.
Moran & Goebel Funeral Home is providing cremation services for Mr. Mathews. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Life Changers Church (1305 E. Prairie, Decatur, Illinois). Condolences may be shared with the family at www.moranandgoebel.com.
