Kirk Orville Beyers' Obituary
Decatur-Kirk Orville Beyers, 78, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 in St. Mary’s Hospital after a year long battle with leukemia.
Kirk was born June 1, 1938 in Danville, Illinois, the son of Orville and Hyacinth (Klein) Beyers. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School in Pana and graduated from Pana High School class of 1956. Kirk proudly served in the Illinois National Guard. He was a longtime resident of Christian County where he farmed for many years in the Owaneco-Taylorville area. He served as a 4-H leader. He also worked at Sloan Implement Company in Assumption. Kirk married Joan Martin on April 8, 1967.
Kirk is survived by his wife Joan of Decatur, children Julie Beyers (Nerko Hajdarevic) of Chicago, Suzanne Simpson of Decatur, and Andy (Allison) Beyers of Oconee, five beloved grandchildren Luke Simpson, Eric Simpson, Almir Hajdarevic, and Tucker and Maggie Beyers, sisters Kaye McGovern of Wheaton, Mary (Sheldon) Marrs of Lebanon, Indiana, and Marjorie of Barrington, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Kirk was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Betty, brother Lewis Beyers, sister-in-law Patty, and brother-in-law Joe McGovern.
Kirk loved all things mechanical and liked nothing better than helping others solve problems. His ready smile and gentle way made him a friend to many.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Estrada-Garcia and staff at Cancer Care Specialists, the staff on the fourth floor of St. Mary’s Hospital for their kind and professional care. As well as the staff at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis where Kirk participated in a clinical trial.
Mass of Christian burial to celebrate Kirk’s life will be 6:00 PM Tuesday, May 16, 2017 in Holy Family Catholic Church 2400 S. Franklin St., with Very Rev. Joe Molloy V.F. celebrant. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 PM prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart School in Pana or the Kerby-Strong Foundation which provides assistance for everyday needs of cancer patients.
