Lance Barry Lercher's Obituary
Lance Barry Lercher, 78, of Decatur, died at home on February 5, 2023.
Memorial Visitation will be from 11am until 12 noon on Saturday, February 11, at First United Methodist Church in Decatur. A Memorial Service will begin at 12 noon in the church.
Lance was born July 16, 1944 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Irving Leroy Lercher and Ann Elizabeth (Barry) Lercher.
Lance graduated from Tri City High School in 1962. He received his Pharmacy degree in 1968 from the University of Iowa (GO HAWKS!). After many years as a Registered Pharmacist, he retired in 2012.
He enjoyed music, and after 40 years, he returned to playing his trumpet. He was proud to be an active member of the Decatur Municipal Band for 10 years. In addition to the Muni Band, he was a choir member at First United Methodist Church.
Lance, also known as Poppy, loved and cherished his time with all his grandchildren: Ella, Nola, and Veda Redden of Decatur, and Cole, Noah and Lexi Renner of Indiana. He was the “good cop” to his wife’s “bad cop.” Lastly, he had a soft spot for his comfort dogs, Alice and Jasper.
Lance is survived by his wife Ann (Messmore) Lercher of Decatur; 2 stepchildren whom he loved as his own, Jolyn (Renner) Redden and husband John of Decatur, and Jamie Renner and wife Brenda of Indiana; his brother Stu Lercher of Tucson Arizona; sister Susan (Lercher) Barry of Prescott, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. He especially loved his relationship with his nieces Lauren (Messmore) Kraus, Rachel Messmore, and Anna Messmore.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
