Lanston "Sonny" Williamson's Obituary
Lanston (Sonny) Williamson Sr., was born in Tipton County, TN on April 25, 1936 to Willie Anderson Williamson and Clara Bell Reynolds Williamson.
He married Ruby Thelma Adams and to their union was blessed with two children, Emma and Lanston Jr.
He worked construction for many years with Dave Ellis Construction Company. During retirement he found pleasure in fishing, hunting, and gardening. He especially enjoyed working with the University of Illinois Green Thumb Project. He received much recognition and first place plaques and prizes for being a “master” gardener.
Sonny is survived by his daughters Emma Williamson (Joliet, IL), Patricia Hodges (Texas), his sons Lanston Jr., (Rocio)(Berwyn, IL) and Erving Taylor (Memphis, TN); three grandsons, Lanston Dwayne May (Thornton CO), Trenton C. Williamson (Huachuca, AZ) and Dante Williamson (Berwyn, IL); one grandaughter, Sabel K. Williamson (Atlanta, GA); two great grandchildren Trevaye May and Karrionna Johnson (Indianapolis, IN); two sisters, Mrs. Zannie Blevins (Chicago), and Mrs. Nell Boyland (Memphis, TN); one brother, Exum (Georgia) Williamson (Memphis, TN); TN in-laws, Lou Alice Jackson (Arthur Louis), Jack Adams (Bettye), Rosie Mae Adams, Bonnie Adams, and Dorthy Adams of Decatur and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A special thanks to Mary Boyd, Lee Andrew Graves, Flordia Fakes, Brenda Harper, Gwen Wilder and Joyce Hawkins for helping him make it through these last few months.
Homegoing service will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Family will meet with friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
