Larry Marvin Black's Obituary
Larry Marvin Black, 66, of Maroa, passed away at 4:30 am Saturday April 01, 2006 with his family at his side.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held 3:00 pm Tuesday April 04, 2006 in Maroa Christian Church, where visitation will be from 1-3 pm Tuesday in the church; with Rev. Ron Rector officiating. The family request casual attire to be worn for the visitation and service. Burial will be in Maroa Cemetery in Maroa where Military Rites will be conducted by the VFW Post #4168 of Clinton. Moran & Goebel Funeral Home is assisting the Black family with these arrangements. Memorials are suggested to be given to the Larry Black memorial fund in care Maroa Forsyth Community Bank or DMH Hospice.
Larry was born in Casper, Wyoming on October 01, 1939 the son of Marvin and Marjorie Jones Black. He worked as a scheduler for Bridgestone/Firestone for many years, retiring in 1995. He served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the VFW of Clinton. He was a former Deputy Sheriff with Ventura County in California. He was a former coach for the Junior Football League, Baseball, Girls Softball and Boys Basketball and enjoyed Playing Softball with his family. He played fast pitch softball for many years on area teams including Ferguson Drywall, Perfect Windows, Maroa Merchants and Automobile Rebuilders. He was affiliated with Maroa Christian Church. He married Connie V. Runyen on March 18, 2004 in Decatur; she survives.
Also surviving includes his children; Erik Black and wife Amy of Dwight, Shannon Marshall and husband Bryan of Oreana, Heidi McKinnis and husband Jason, Quentin Tombaugh, Joshua Tombaugh, Nicholis Tombaugh and Anthony Tombaugh all of Maroa. Grand children; Taylor Black, Anthony Rohr, Taran Black, Nathan Marshall, Jared Black, Hannah Johnson, Jordan Tombaugh and Adison McKinnis; father-in-law; Robert Runyen of Maroa, brothers-in-law; Dale Cullum of Pittsburg, CA, Robert Runyen and wife Sheila of Laomi and Lee Runyen of Maroa; Special friends; Jim and Marilynn Weikle of Maroa, Walt Sheets of Mt. Zion, Dave Collins of Mt. Pulaski and Tom and Shannon Pennypacker of Maroa; Sister-in-law; Alice Runyen of Defiance, OH; Several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews all in California.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one sister; Dorothy and one nephew, Rick Cullum.
