Lavern John Rubin's Obituary
Lavern Rubin, 93, of Decatur, Illinois, died peacefully at home on August 17, 2024.
Lavern was born in Kinmundy, Illinois, on September 26, 1930, to Martin and Ella (Bergman) Rubin. He was a farmer and woodworker. Lavern was the owner and operator of Rubin Home Improvement and Midstate Elevator and Mobility. He retired in 1990. Lavern was an avid woodworker and later opened an arts and crafts company. He was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Decatur. He also belonged to Superior Old Timers and the Salvation Army.
Rubin is survived by his wife Wanda Rubin; sisters Betty Lyon and Shirley Fairbanks; brother Floyd Rubin; children Connie Golladay, Carolyn Greve, and Pam Vandenburg (Harvey); 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Ella Rubin, brother Leroy Rubin, stepdaughter Kimberly Smith, and grandchildren Joseph and Jason Rhodes.
Funeral services for Lavern will be held on Monday, August 26, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Decatur. Visitation will begin at 10am and will be followed by a funeral service at 11am. Burial in the Lutheran Cemetery in Decatur will follow the service. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.moranandgoebel.com.
