Lavette P. Williams' Obituary
Lavette P. Williams, 48, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away September 24, 2022 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Lavette was born in Chicago on February 20, 1974, the daughter of Walter and Leerean (Barfield) Williams. She worked as a cook in several places, including HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a baptized Christian and belonged to Mountaintop Missionary Baptist Church. She was a sci-fi fan with a passion for Doctor Who and Star Wars. She enjoyed cooking and playing computer games. She loved journalism and was a published writer. Everyone who knew her knew how much she loved her family.
Lavette is survived by her mother; children Evelyn Williams of Chicago and Terrel Williams of Decatur; siblings Patricia (James) Taylor of Florida, Ronda Barfield of Chicago, Stanley (Dorothy) Williams of Chicago, Lynette (Byron) Williams-Reeves of Broadview, Tony Williams of Wisconsin, and twin sister Evette Williams of Decatur; uncle Robert Banks; a host of nieces and nephews; and many longtime friends. She was preceded in death by her father; grandmother “Big Momma”; grandfather Pertis Barfield; great-grandmother Lucy Banks; siblings Walter Williams III and Mildred Williams; uncles Welton Banks, James Davis, and Tommy McDonald; and nephew Brandon Williams.
Funeral services for Lavette will be held on Saturday, October 1 at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10am to 11am. Homegoing service will begin at 11am. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.moranandgoebel.com.
