Lawrence J. "Larry" Peters' Obituary
Decatur – Lawrence J. “Larry” Peters, 79, of Decatur, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 26, 2015.
Larry was born May 18, 1935 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Robert O. and Margaret (Friend) Peters. Larry was a graduate of St. Thomas Grade School, St. Teresa High School, Class of 1953, and Bradley University. He married Clara E. “Soupy” Henson on August 30, 1958 in Decatur. He was a veteran of the Naval Reserve and enjoyed volunteering at St. Mary’s Hospital. Larry was the president of L. J. Peters Sales, Inc., and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Larry is survived by his wife, Soupy; children: Cary (Keely) Peters and their children Michael H. (Jessica) and their son: Drew, David M. (Jillian) and Adam B.; Margaret “Peggy” (Tom) Waterman and their children: John T. (Kaitie) Lauren M. and Mark T; Nanette (Bill) Krueger and their children: Kathryn H. and Patrick H.; Patrick (Mary) Peters and their children: Joseph L., Daniel P., and Matthew T.; Laura (Tim) Schlueter and their children: Elize M. (Logan) Meyer, T. J., Samuel M. and Trevor M.; Matthew (Jenny) Peters and their children: Morgan T. (Nico) Shelley, Abigail E., Benjamin H., Charles M., Max D., Emma K., Mae E., Ted D., and Zeke J. Larry is also survived by his brother, Rev. David L. Peters and one sister Mary Lou (Bill) Johnson of Decatur; sisters in law: Judy Peters and Gretchen Peters-Hantel; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He always made time for his children and grandchildren’s events, and was a fixture at most St. Teresa High School activities. He recently enjoyed watching Millikin baseball.
Larry was reunited in Heaven with his parents and brothers: Dan (Carolyn), Jim, John and twin brother, Terry (Katherine).
Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial to Celebrate Larry’s life will be 12 pm Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Rev. David L. Peters main celebrant. Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of the Mass in the church. Burial will follow in Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Decatur. Memorials may be made to St. Teresa High School.
