Leon H. Hill 83 of Decatur died at 5:04 am Friday September 10, 2004 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Home going services will be 11 am Thursday September 16, 2004 in the New Salem Missionary Baptist Church on North Edward Street , where visitation will be 2 hours before services. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County. Leon was born in Woodruff County, Arkansas on November 19, 1920 the son of Andrew and Minnie Carter Hill. He served his country proudly during World War II serving in the Army, having tours of duty in England, France and Germany. He worked for Wagner Castings – Intermet for over 32 years. He was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church. He married Loretta Brice on August 29, 1944 in Decatur, she survives.
He also leaves behind to cherish fond memories, his son, Leon H. Hill, Jr. and wife Ona of Saginaw, Michigan; his daughters, Judy Tyus and husband Charlie of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Velma Mabry and husband Roland of Decatur and Anita Washington and husband Jimmy of Decatur; brothers include Osba Patton and wife Alice and Irinza Patton and wife Ernestine all of Chicago, sisters include Jessie Jackson and husband Robert of Elaine, Ark. and Dorothy Carter of Chicago. Eleven grandchildren, 10 great – grandchildren and host of other relatives.
Leon is preceded in death by his parents, one brother.
