Leona Catherine Varner's Obituary
Leona Catherine Varner, 85, of Decatur, passed into Heaven Tuesday, February 27, 2018 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Leona was born March 23, 1932 in Decatur, the daughter of Jesse and Myrtle (Jay) Eyer. George, her husband of sixty-two years, preceded her in death in 2012.
Leona’s career began at Decatur Memorial Hospital as a unit manager. She earned her Nursing Home Administrator degree in Iowa. She served at several nursing homes in the Iowa area. Later she earned her LPN certification. Leona’s hobbies included gardening, decorating, and collecting antiques. She was an active member of South Shores Christian Church and enjoyed Bible study.
Surviving are her children David (Janice) Varner, Kathy (Barry) Park-Hartman, Pam (Pete) Varner, and Joy (Ron) Goodside, ten grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, brothers, and great-grandson Eli Varner.
Graveside services to celebrate her life will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Monticello Township Cemetery in Monticello. Memorials are suggested to South Shores Christian Church.
