Leonard C. Grider's Obituary
Leonard C. Grider, 65, of Decatur, died on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005 in his home.
Services celebrating his life will be 1 p.m. Tues. Oct. 4, 2005 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home where visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday. Burial will be in Point Pleasant Cemetery.
Mr. Grider was born on May 16, 1940 in Thomasboro the son of Charles and V. Louise Fields Grider. Leonard retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1992 after 32 years of service. He then became the foreman for the Decatur Lake Patrol until earlier this year. Leonard was an active member of the Decatur Elk Lodge #401 where he served as an officer and committeeman numerous times, and currently as Trustee. He was elected Exalted Ruler in 1997 and was names Elk of the year in 1991. Leonard was elected Vice President of the West Central District, Illinois Elks Association in 1991 and was named District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of the District in 1993. Mr. Grider was also a Past Commander of the Sons of the American Legion Post #105 in Decatur. He married Julia A. Ehrmantrout on July 18, 1959 in Decatur.
Surviving is his wife of Decatur; daughter, Laurie husband, Michael Rhode and their children: Danielle, Ian and Aaron of Decatur; son, Brian wife, Mary Grider and their children: Will and Jacob of Mt. Zion; great grandsons: Johnathan and Kain; sister, Nancy Solomon of Marion; mother-in-law: Mrs. Walter Ehrmantraut of Decatur.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents.
