Lillian L. Halicki's Obituary
Decatur – Lillian (GG) L. (Kernodle) Halicki, 97, of Decatur, IL., formerly of Maroa, passed away October 31, 2019, in her home.
Lillian was born in Macon, IL, the second daughter of Ralph J. and Violet E. (Tate) Kernodle on October 14, 1922. She was raised in several small towns, in that area, with her older sister, Jessie Ann and younger sister, Barbara Jean.
On February 19, 1944, she married Peter J. Halicki at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clinton, IL. He preceded her in death on June 2, 1994, four months after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
They made their first home in rural Maroa, in a tiny home, next to Peter’s parents, where they helped with the farm. Then they started their family and moved into the city of Maroa.
Lillian was a homemaker and then served as the librarian of the Maroa Township Library, where she retired, after many years.
Preceding Peter’s death, they became members of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Decatur. After her husband’s death, she moved to Decatur, IL.
She became quite independent and enjoyed her time with family, friends and neighbors. She enjoyed driving and chauffeuring her friends to church and lunch, until age 94.
GG is survived by her daughter, Lynette Fleming and husband, George; granddaughter, Kristen Hise and husband, Cary; grandson, Aaron Fleming and wife, Christine. Surviving great-grandchildren are Kathryn Hise, Hillary, Cameron and Wyatt Fleming and step-great-granddaughter, Lauren Condon, husband, Kyle and great-great-step-granddaughter, Ailish Condon; daughter-in-law, Kathy Halicki; best friend, Izzie; friend and caregiver, Jen and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters and son, Anthony, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, in-laws and friends.
We are thankful that Lillian had a long and God Blessed Life and that she was a woman of great faith. She loved her family and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Our family especially thanks Jen and family, who tirelessly and compassionately cared for Lillian.
Thank you to Mom’s friends, and our friends who helped, in some way, to show their support and kindness.
Also, additional thanks to Elara Caring Hospice for the compassionate care from Lori, Christina, Tracy and Julie, as well as their staff and delivery crew, for the courteous respect given to our family.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 30, 2019, from 11 am, until the Mass of the Resurrection at 12 pm, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Private burial will take place Monday, December 2, 2019, in Graceland Cemetery.
