Lincoln Leo "Red" Knox's Obituary
Lincoln Leo “Red” Knox, 91, of Decatur, died on Sunday, June 11, 2006 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life will be 11 am Thursday, June 15, 2006 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 3720 N. Sterling, Peoria. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, June 14, 2006 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home and one hour before the Mass on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens with Military Rites. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Red was born on Feb. 12, 1915 in Peoria, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth McCluskey Knox. He was employed at Caterpillar for 43 years. During that time he worked at both the Peoria and Decatur plants before retiring in January of 1981 as Superintendent of Material Control. Red joined the Navy before WWII in 1940 and bravely served his country for 5 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War. Red loved to golf and was a member of several leagues throughout his life. He married V. Bernice Jones on October 9, 1943 in Miami, FL.
Surviving is his wife of nearly 63 years, Bernice of Decatur; son, Gary wife, Vickie Knox of Decatur; daughter, Belva “B.J.†husband, Jay Gadlage of Decatur; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Rita Howe of Dunlap; many nieces and nephews.
Red was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters and three brothers.
The family would like to thank Lincoln Manor, McKinley Court, 5100 staff at DMH, DMH Hospice, Dr. Stephen Goetter and Dr. Luis Caceres for all their care and concern.
