Linda Marie Hayes' Obituary
Linda Marie Hayes, 70, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away September 16, 2024, at the Loft Rehabilitation of Decatur, Illinois.
Linda was born in Brownsville, Tennessee, on September 6, 1954, the daughter of Willie Curtis Pettigrew and Della Mae Cole. She excelled at taking care of others, especially children. She was known as the “neighborhood babysitter,” and many fine people were in her care in their youth. She was a faithful member of Bright Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, Illinois.
Linda leaves to mourn: her children Desmond Hayes, Earcila Swanson, and Dominique Hayes; brothers Curtis (Stephanie) Pettigrew of TN, Michael (Debra) Pettigrew of MI, Willie (Madge) Pettigrew of MI, Nelson Pettigrew of MI, Arthur (Essie) Pettigrew of GA, Alvin Pettigrew of MS, and Randle Hayes of Decatur, IL; sisters Mae Ellen (Wayne) Brown of MI, Annie Mae (Emmanuel) Smith of MI, Georgia (Sammy) Willis of MI, Vanessa (Roderick) Jackson of MI, Margaret (Gregory) Alexandra of AR, Reba Spicer of AR, Alveta Larry of MO, Rita Flowers of KY, Donna (David) Brown of GA, and Sheila Hayes of Decatur, IL; 11 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by both parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
Moran & Goebel Funeral Home is providing cremation services for Linda. A memorial service will be held at 11am Saturday, October 5, at Bright Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Decatur, IL. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.moranandgoebel.com.
