Tapscott, Linda's Obituary
Linda passed away on September 12, 2024, in Mt. Zion, Illinois. Funeral services will be held to honor Linda’s life at 1:00PM on September 21, 2024, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home 2801 N Monroe St, Decatur, IL 62526. Visitation will begin at noon. She will be buried at the North Fork Cemetery in Decatur, Illinois.
Linda was one of seven children born to Vernon and Florence Thomas. She grew up on a farm near Lerna, Illinois with her six siblings (all deceased): sister, Donna Hall; and brothers, Bud, Jim, Joe, Bob, and Jackie Thomas (died in infancy).
Linda graduated from Charleston High School where she was a cheerleader and played trombone in the band. After graduating she married R.D. Wainscott (deceased) and had two children, Eric Wainscott (Andrea Wainscott and son Mauricio Souza) and Brian Wainscott (Susan Wainscott). She later married Fred Tapscott (deceased) adding his sons Scott and Philip and their families to her circle. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, and sibling.
She worked as a secretary and administrative assistant for various companies including A.E. Staley Manufacturing Co. and United Parcel Service. She even worked for the decadal census. She retired from UPS and focused on family, friends, and neighbors whom she loved very much.
She was an excellent cook and always prepared delicious holiday meals. She was fond of music and would break out an accordion and sing a Christmas song or two. She bowled and played bunco with a large network of friends many of whom became close family friends. During the later years of her life Linda overwintered in Tampa, Florida with husband Fred where their group of friends expanded. She enjoyed traveling, getting outdoors, and talking with others. We will miss having conversations with her. She had an adventurous side that occasionally included water skiing, cross-country skiing, and parasailing. She always had a camera handy to document her family and adventures. She enjoyed watching sports and was a fan of IndyCar, the Chicago Cubs, and Illini basketball.
