Lonnie L. Melton's Obituary
“Lonnie Lee Melton, 61, of Naples, IL, passed peacefully surrounded by family July 4th, 2024. He was born January 7th, 1963, in Peoria, the son of Thomas and Darlene Melton. Lonnie, his brother, Tommy, and sisters, Sandra and Mary, all grew up in Peoria together. He married Kathryn Jane Melton in Peoria on May 6th, 1993. She preceded him in death on November 30, 2003.
Whether by birth or by choice, Lonnie created a beautiful family whom he loved above all else. When he married Kathryn, he gained two beautiful daughters: Valerie Shields and Amanda Coffey. He had a deep affection to his 3 boys: Tony Nixon, Bou (Emily) Melton, and Cody (Natalie) Melton. He leaves behind many very loved and treasured grandchildren: Hannah McGownd, Madelynn, Lorelei, and Brooklyn Dismang, and Katie, Benjamin, Tilian, Charlotte, and Forrest Melton, and many nieces and nephews. Lonnie loved spending time with his family, especially during the holiday season. He always had a piece of chocolate and a Daffy Duck voice ready for them.
A close second to his love of family was his love of the outdoors. If Lonnie wasn’t home, you’d catch him on his 4 wheeler headed to the deer stand or out fishing on the water with his buddy, Jack.
While his earthly duties may be done, we have comfort in knowing that his legacy and memory lives on through his friends, family, and anyone who knew him. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
