Lorenzo Tyus Sr.'s Obituary
Lorenzo Tyus, Sr. went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at St. John's Hospital.
Lorenzo was born September 4, 1962 to the union of Mary and John Herman Tyus in Brownsville, TN. He attended Decatur Public School. He was one of the first African Americans to successfully achieve his GED from Futures Unlimited.
Lorenzo worked as a restaurant service employee for many years. He had a passion for cooking. He was best known for his famous fried chicken with onion gravy, and smothered potatoes.
He was a skilled handyman. He could repair anything from a door knob to the kitchen sink. As a teenager, he could disassemble a bike and rebuild it. He was the first to build a bike with music that operated from a small engine battery.
Lorenzo relocated to South Bend, Indiana, where he met and married the love of his life, Michelle Broadway. Together they had one son, De'airus, but later divorced. He was a loving father, brother, and uncle to his nieces & nephews.
He leaves to cherish his memory ten siblings, Nell (Lee) Graves of Lacassas, TN; Mary (Ntaka) Triimar, Shirley (Pastor Leon) Young, Joyce (Alvin) Green, Minnie (Lloyd) Hunter, Regina (Thomas) Estrada, Doris (Kenney) Lee, of Decatur IL; brothers Danny Tyus, Darren Tyus, and Milton Tyus or Decatur, IL; Children Tiffany Peck, and Janice Smith of Decatur, IL; Lorenzo Tyus, Jr. of South Bend, IN; De'airus D. Tyus of Miami, FL; two step-sons, Pierre and Cashmere Broadway; five Grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and older sister and brother.
Homegoing services to celebrate Lorenzo’s life will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Decatur, with visitation being held for 1 hour prior to the homegoing services. Cremation rites will be accorded to Lorenzo following the services.
