Loretta Ballard's Obituary
Loretta Mae Ballard, 91, of Decatur passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013 in Heritage Manor Nursing Home.
Loretta was born on December 11, 1921 in rural Macon, IL at the Gibson/Cross family farm.
Loretta was the daughter of Rollie E. and Ethel M. (Cross) Scribner.
Loretta attended Stephen Decatur High School. She was employed for 32 years with A.W. Cash Valve, from which she later retired. She also received the Army/Navy 'E Award' after WWII as an employee of Houdaille Hershey which manufactured the tube which enclosed the atom bomb.
She was a member of the OES Macon Chapter, ABWA Decatur Chapter, and A.W. Cash Valve Credit Union serving as a Loan Officer. She also was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Loretta loved traveling to visit family, but especially enjoyed ABWA trips. She traveled with three friends in the summer of '89 over 30 days through the northwest, south through the coastal states, and returned via southern states; a trip over 7,400 miles. Her most memorable trip was with her friend, Mary Jane, traveling by ferries, trains, planes and buses into Canada.
Loretta had a passion for watching Chicago Bulls and the Illini basketball games. She enjoyed watching ice skating and said, 'I would like to come back reincarnated as a skater'.
Surviving are her daughters, Arda Mae Davis (Gary) of Wisconsin; Patricia Ann Watts (David) of Decatur; Jo-Ellen Cribbett of Bethany; brother, Rolland David Scribner of Oklahoma; sisters, Doris Karr of Decatur; Marilee Kamins of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Leona Drake.
Services to celebrate Loretta's life will be 11 AM Tuesday, June 4, 2013 in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10 -11 AM Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park. Memorials are suggested to Passages Hospice or Heritage Manor Nursing home.
