Lucille Bowman Howard's Obituary
Lucille Bowman Howard, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at Lincoln Manor Nursing Home.
She was born February 19, 1923, in Cairo, Illinois to the union of Walter Bowman and Mary Bell Emerson. Her adoptive father was Othor Joyner. She moved to Decatur around 1944 and worked for a time at the Signal Depot.
Mrs. Howard accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Perthshire, Mississippi before moving to Decatur and joining New Salem Baptist Church. She worked on the Usher Board, was a youth director, was on the kitchen committee, was a member of the Mother's Board and also did other various things around the church to uplift the name of God.
She gave freely of her time to anyone who she came in contact with. She was a friend and mother figure to all. She married Ensign Howard on July 27, 1943 and he preceded her in death on February 14, 2007.
She leaves to cherish but not to morn, her nephew/son, Milton Joyner, Jr. and wife Barbara of Decatur; great-nieces: Linda, Penny, and Neisha Joyner and Tanya Chris Jones all of Decatur, Tamikae James Smalls of South Carolina; great-nephews: Gordon Yolanda Joyner of Nebraska, Phil Joyner of Mattoon and Michael Joyner of Decatur; special cousins, Rodney, Valarie, Jeffrey, and Shonda Brady; a host of great-great nieces and nephews, great-great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Homegoing services will be 11 am Monday, December 10, 2007 at New Salem Baptist Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park.
She was preceded in death by her biological father and mother, her stepfather, one brother, Milton Joyner, Sr., and special cousin, Lucille Brady.

The family of Lucille Howard is being served by the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2801 N. Monroe St. Decatur.
