Luella "Lulu" Johnson's Obituary
Luella “Lulu” Johnson, 55, of Decatur, IL, departed this life on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at home with family.
Luella was born on October 16, 1960, in Decatur to the late Jerlean (Johnson) Emerson and Walter D. (Sebria) Fox. Luella was a member of Mt. Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, and was a faithful member of the church for many years.
Luella was a ‘1978’ graduate of Dwight D. Eisenhower High School. She attended Bradley University in Peoria, IL. She then continued her education at Eastern Illinois University obtaining both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree.
Her life led her to Dallas, TX where she was employed in banking and at Neiman Marcus. She continued her travels and settled in Little Rock, AR where she met the love of her life, Kenneth Shavers. Eventually, they relocated to Decatur, IL, Luella’s home for better employment. Luella then began working for the State of Illinois as a accounting supervisor in Springfield for 16 years.
Luella loved the Lord wholeheartedly as well as dressing extremely fashionably, her magazines, music, her many nieces and nephews, and her flowers. She was the “Total Bomb” and never met a stranger.
Luella leaves to cherish many fun loving memories: Her father, Walter D. Fox of Decatur; brothers, Hubert (Tonia) Johnson, Jr. of Richardson, TX, Clifford E. (Sharon) Johnson of Mesquite, TX, Marques R. Johnson and Randall Galliton of Grand Rapids, MI; sisters, Annette Perry, Debra R. Johnson, Erma S. (John Jarrett) Johnson of both Decatur, IL and Brownsville, TN, and Michelle (Keith) Warnsley of Decatur, IL; uncles,Willis Fox, Peter Spates, and Robert Spates, all of Decatur, IL; aunts, Lena (Osborne) Royster of Matteson, IL, Elnora Flinn, Fannie Mae Bond, Guster B. Latson, and Jennie Turner, all of Decatur, IL, Cordelia Walker of Brownsville, TN, Earcell Foxx of Walker Springs, AL, and Mazetta Maxwell of Milwaukee, WI; 10 nephew and 16 nieces; stepfather, William Emerson of Decatur, IL; special cousin who is most like a sister, Ermalee Flinn of Decatur, IL; and many other relatives and friends.
Luella was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Johnson; sister, Kendra D. Johnson; maternal grandparents, Rev. Allen and Luella Spates-her namesake; paternal grandparents, Dink and Irma Fox; fiancé, Kenneth Shavers; uncles, C.T. Taylor, Neil Flinn; nephew, Tiheyon D. Freeman; and most precious of all her mother, Jerlean (Johnson) Emerson.
Services to celebrate Luella’s life will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2016, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral service. Rev. Marshall Hughes will be officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
