Lyle Tappendorf's Obituary
Lyle Tappendorf, 85, of Decatur Il passed away on November 18,2024 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Lyle was born September 15, 1939, to Leonard and Marie Tappendorf in Dewitt Il.
Lyle lovingly referred to by his grandchildren “the Grand Pooh-Bah" is survived by his son Benjamin Tappendorf; daughters, Roberta Shull, Rebecca Tappendorf, Dana Tappendorf, Katherine York, Dawn Maple and Stephani (Mitch) Cave; brothers, Ken (Mary) Tappendorf and Jim (Nancy) Tappendorf; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law, Nancy Tappendorf.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; wife Theresa; son, Timothy Tappendorf; daughter, Jennifer Tucker and sister, Carolyn Tappendorf
Lyle worked at Firestone in shipping and receiving and retired after 30 years. While working there he also umpired men’s fast pitch softball on his weekends. He was a parishioner at St. Thomas Catholic Church and a member of the Knights Of Columbus. He enjoyed sitting in his recliner and watching TV with his eyes closed and his mouth open. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and nurses in the ER, ICU and the medical Nursing Staff on the 4100 floor for all the wonderful care and compassion he received.
A visitation will be held for Lyle at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home on November 30, 2024, from 10-12pm. Funeral liturgy will follow at 12pm also at the funeral home. Burial rites will be held following the service at Macon County Memorial Park.
