M. Virginia Mercer 80 of Quincy, formerly of Decatur died at 3:45 pm Tuesday May 18, 2004 in Sunset Care Center in Quincy.

Virginia was born April 17, 1924 in Christian County, Illinois the daughter of Edward J. and Odah Markwell Stapleton. Virginia retired from Wagner Intermet Foundry after 28 years in the marketing department. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Our 60 Club, Ladies of Charity, Sunset Auxiliary, Beta Sigma Phi all of Quincy. She also held membership in St. James Catholic Church, Decatur Memorial Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliaries, Macon County Historical Society, Wagner Retirees Club, Dove Inc all of Decatur.
She survived by her nephews, James E. Russell and wife Norma of Quincy, Tim Russell and wife Irish of Columbia, South Carolina, J. Daniel Russell and wife Marilyn of Altus, Oklahoma; nieces include Mrs. Larry Barbara Gross of Orlando, Florida, Beth McCracken of Ewing, Missouri, Mrs. Peggy Russell and late husband Michael, Columbia, Missouri, several great nephews and nieces.
Proceeded in death by her parents, sister; Hellice Russell, brother Edward F. "Bus" Stapleton and nephew Michael Russell.
