M. Ray York's Obituary
Ray York passed away on June 27, 2022, in Decatur IL.
Ray was born to Chester and Katie York in Chambers, KY on January 8, 1933. He graduated from Lovington High School in 1951. Ray enjoyed his working career at A.E. Staley Mfg. Co. From 1951 to 1988. He honorably served in the U. S. Army from 1953-1955. After Ray retired from Staley’s Shirley and he bought the retail store downtown Decatur called “The Linen Closet” which they enjoyed running for years.
Ray married Shirley McCoy of Lovington in 1955. They celebrated 65 years of marriage in January of 2022. Matthew and Mitchell shared their lives with this couple for 57 years.
Ray is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter-in-law, Katherine York; grandchildren, Paege (Greg) Maltby, Caleb York, Joshua (Samantha) Hamilton and Maria (Ray) Hollgarth; great-grandchildren Shaniya, Gregory, Evelyn, Selena, Dakota, Raymond, Judy, and Travis as well as numerous extended family and friends
He was preceded in death by his sons, Matthew and Mitchell and parents, Chester and Katie York.
A visitation for Ray will be held at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 10am to 12pm. A funeral service will also be at Moran and Goebel at 12pm with a burial to follow at North Fork Cemetery.
