M. Kathleen Smethers, 87, of Decatur died at 5:42 am on Wednesday July 27, 2005 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 noon Friday July 29, 2005 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Jeff Stone as celebrant. Visitation will be two hours prior to service in the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Kathleen was born January 18, 1918 in Abington, IL the daughter of James and Louise Livesy Young. She was a charter member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and a member of CD of A. She married Clarence Smethers on May 30, 1940 in Decatur. Kathleen worked as a seamstress and a homemaker.
Surviving are her husband, Clarence of Decatur; son, Michael Joseph and wife Colleen of Taylorville, daughters, Mary Anne Stogner and husband Bill of Decatur, Marie K. Schroeder of Decatur; L. Jane Wernsing and husband Jim of Effingham; sisters, Barbara Bennett of West Palm Beach, FL; Virginia Thomas of Pewaukee, WI; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
The family would like to thank the McKinley Nursing Staff for all their care and thoughtfulness shown towards Kathleen.
