Madeline MeMe Joy's Obituary
Madeline C. Joy 89, fondly known as “MeMe” of Decatur died Sunday April 10th at Decatur Memorial Hospital surrounded by loving family members.
Services will be held Saturday April 16th at 1 pm in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery Decatur. Memorials: St. Peter’s A.M.E. Church Youth Lay Organization.
Mrs. Joy was a lifelong member of St. Peters A.M.E. Church. She attended Decatur Public Schools. Mrs. Joy was born on February 3, 1916 in Decatur the daughter of William and Mattie Anderson Bowens. She married Richard Joy on May 29, 1943 in St. Louis, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and 2 sisters.
Survivors include: her husband of 61 years. Sisters; Carrie Bowens and Cathleen Banks both of Decatur, sister – in – law Ruth Bowens and special friend and sister-in-law Rev Betty Joy.
Although no children were born to this union – she had Johnny Kidd Sandra, Donna Palmer Jackson and Richard Palmer, Brett Jackson, Lisa and Michael Kidd and Laqushia Freeman as her special children.
Host of special nieces and nephews: Angela Williams. Madeline Robert Hess, Joy Day, Sheila Gray, Bernadette Bowens, Sharon Bill Boyce, Lea Hawkins, Rosetta Shaw, Clara Fred Copeland, Larry Gray, Boast Jeanne Sain, Lorenzo Leola Sain, Ridley Alma Miller, Sara Sain and Mary Miller and a host of great nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
A heart of Gold stopped beating
Two smiling eyes at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.
