Margaret "Eloise" Burtschi's Obituary
Margaret "Eloise" Burtschi, 93, of Decatur, died Monday evening, June 4, 2007, in Imboden Creek Living Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am. Friday, June 8, 2007, in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where she was an active member, Rev. Richard Weltin celebrant. Visitation will be Thursday, June 7, 2007 from 5 to 7 pm. in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home with a rosary service at 4:30 pm. Burial will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials may be made to the Julius L. Burtschi Scholarship Fund at St. Teresa High School in Decatur or to donor's choice.
Mrs. Burtschi was born March 14, 1914, in Decatur, the daughter of James P. and Myrtle A. Bushu Thorpe. She married Joseph D. Burtschi in Decatur on June 13, 1935. He preceded her in death on October 17, 2004.
Surviving is her daughter, Martha E. Cavanaugh and her husband James R. of Decatur; son, James J. Burtschi and his wife Anita S. of Decatur; nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Mrs. Burtschi attended St. Teresa Academy, the forerunner of St. Teresa High School, graduating in 1931 in the first class from the new High School. After attending Brown's Business College she was employed as credit manager at the Block & Kuhl Department Store. After leaving the workforce to raise her children, she returned to work in her husband's office for seventeen years until her retirement in 1979.
Her lifestyle was quiet and assuming, avoiding publicity. Her life-long dedication to her family will be remembered by all those whose lives she influenced.
