Margot Knapik's Obituary
Margot Hildegard (Lederer) Knapik, 71, of Bonaire, GA, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2014 at her home in Bonaire, GA.
Services to celebrate Margot’s life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Star of Hope Mausoleum, Graceland Cemetery.
Margot was born in Heidelburg, Germany on November 30, 1942. She was the daughter of Karl Phillip Lederer and Emmi Toni (Werner) Lederer Krystians. Margot grew up in Schwetzingen, Germany raised by her mother and step-father Felix Krystians. She came to the United States as a teen-ager.
On March 15, 1968 she was married to Michael Charles Knapik in Shelton, Connecticut. They later settled in Marrero, Louisiana, where they raised their family. When they moved on to Port Sulphur, Louisiana, they owned and operated the prominent Hi Ridge Marina. Marot and Mike retired and moved to Bonaire, GA in 2005 after Hurrican Katrina.
She is survived by her husband Mike of Bonaire, GA; one daughter Robin Lynn Zemaitis and her husband Walter of Bonaire, GA; one son Roderic (Ricky) Charles Knapik and wife Tracey of Decatur, IL; seven grand children; Joshua Walter, Rebekah Lynn, Rachell Lynn, and Railynn Joy Zemaitis. Alyson Rose, Ashlee Rose, and Cameron Robert Knapik; one sister Barbel (Lederer) Le, and one brother Klaus Lederer, both of Germany.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Robert Felix Krystians.
Margot loved life, whenever family and friends would gather her personality would make everyone have a good time. She was a world traveler, but also enjoyed quiet times at home. Margot enjoyed painting, fishing, gardening, and running her seasonal businesses such as fireworks and snowballs. She loved spending time at the beach with her family. She took great pride in her daughter and her son, but was especially proud of all her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
