Marilyn June Hill's Obituary
Decatur-Marilyn June Hill, 78, of Evergreen Senior Living in Decatur, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013 in St. Mary's Hospital.
She was born October 20, 1934 in Salem, Illinois, the daughter of Glenis and Mary (Carnes) Rogers. She was previously employed with Illinois Bell retiring after forty years of service. She was a member of Elwin United Methodist Church and IL Bell Telephone Pioneers. A former member of ABWA Marigold Chapter for thirty-five years and in 1980 was named the National Woman of the Year, the PTA at Roach, Johns Hill, and Eisenhower schools where she held every office, and a Girl Scout Leader from 1968-1972. She was a lifetime member of Decatur Council of PTAs and a quiet hero blood donor to the American Red Cross. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She became a certified florist in 1989 where she made, sold, and donated several arrangements. She loved traveling and making crafts. She was a very civic minded person that believed in giving back to her community. In 1983 she was awarded the Decatur Outstanding Citizenship Award for rescuing a young boy from a fire along with coworker Judy Gentry in December of 1982. She was very proud of being a part of her high school marching band and never missed an opportunity to see a parade. She was known as the ambassador for Evergreen Senior Living. She married Charles Hill June 13, 1985. He preceded her in death June 24, 2000.
She leaves behind her daughters Mary (Philip) Martin of Decatur and Cheryl (Michael) Gilman of Dalton City, grandchildren April Hurst, Zach (Shelly) Hurst, Hilary Gilman(Justin Harmeier), and Cara Gilman, great-granddaughter
Calleigh Hurst, nieces Sue Martina, and Susan Kleiboeker, nephews John Martina and Roger Beasley, sister-in-law Pat Martina, and special friends Cynthia Peterson, Louie and Sonja Chapple, Don and Bernie Custin, and many, many others.
She was reunited in Heaven with her parents, husband, son David, one brother, and one sister.
Services to celebrate Marilyn's life will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 in Elwin United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to the ALS Association.
