Marilyn Monroe Thomas' Obituary
Marilyn Monroe Hicks Thomas, 53, left her earthly home to be with the Lord during the early morning hours of January 18, 2007. She left this earth in the comfort of her own home with her family and friends around her. She was listening to her favorite song, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." The memorial service will be held Friday, January 26, 2007 at 11:00 am at Trinity C.M.E. Church, 444 S. Webster St. in Decatur.
Marilyn was born in Decatur, IL on February 10, 1953 from the union of Monroe Hicks, Sr. and Dorothy Howell Hicks. Marilyn gave her life to the Lord at an early age. As a homemaker and mother, she lended her voice to the gospel singing group, The Brownettes. She married the boy next door, Eddie Thomas, Jr. in June of 1972.
Marilyn does not leave her family to morn, but to celebrate and cherish her life, husband Eddie, Jr., sons Leland Ray, Eddie "Oscar" III and Rhalo Monroe, all of Decatur. Mother, Dorothy Hicks, brother Monroe Shirley Hicks, Jr. and sisters Darlene John Pearson, Brenda Ulyss West, Melanie Brian Pawnell and Teresa Abraham Davis all of Decatur, IL. 11 grandchildren, Jacob, Lil' Leland, Isaiah, Lela, Monroe, London, Taylan, Laryn, Nadia, Gracie and Ebonee. And four Aunts, two Uncles and a host of special cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Her maternal and paternal grandparents, her father, Monroe Hicks, Sr., Aunt Betty Washington and niece Tanesha Hicks preceded her in death.
Marilyn, you fought a good fight and you have done a wonderful job with us. Yes, we are sad right now, but at the same time, happy. You gave wisdom, respect and most of all love. We thank you for being a part of our lives and we will always know that you are there with us. You were the glue that held us together, and for that, we thank you.
