Marjorie L. Hertel's Obituary
Decatur-Marjorie L. Hertel, 93, of Decatur, was welcomed at the gates of Heaven with open arms by her Lord and Savior, husband, and all of those who have gone before her at 1:32 a.m. Friday, August 24, 2012 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 27, 2012 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 407 E. Eldorado, with Fathers John Burnette Don Wolford, and Jim Henning O.F.M., Conv., Celebrants. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the Mass at the church. Burial with 'Flight Home' Ceremony will be 10:30 Tuesday, August 28, 2012 in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Ss James and Patrick Parish or Come Together Let's Walk.
Marjorie was born October 4, 1918, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Albert Loren and Mary Jacobina (Walters) Steingreaber. She was a devoted wife and homemaker. After raising her children she was briefly employed by Sears in the catalog department. She was a member of Ss James and Patrick Parish and enjoyed playing cards. She married Jerome Paul Hertel November 10, 1938. He preceded her in death March 24, 1997.
She leaves behind her son James Hertel of Coffeeville, Mississippi, daughters Carolyn 'Kay' Schumacher of Farmer City, Diane (Cale) Wayne of Weldon, Donna (Terry) Sparr, Mary Hertel, Barbara Hertel, and Susan Hertel all of Decatur, twenty-seven grandchildren, sixty-five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was reunited in Heaven with her parents, husband, daughter Janet Louise Hill, sons-in-law Jerry Hill and Pete Schumacher, brother Norman Steingreaber, and sister Lucile Fleming.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. David Baumberger and staff and the nurses and staff on 4100 at Decatur Memorial Hospital for all of their compassionate care.
