Mark Henry McEvoy's Obituary
Decatur – Mark Henry McEvoy, 72, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Mark was born to Mark Mumford and Frances Elizabeth (McNamara) McEvoy on May 2, 1941 in Decatur, IL. He graduated from St. Teresa High School in 1959 and was married Rebecca Sue Hanks in 1975. He worked at PPG and retired in 2003. Mark loved music. He was a disc jockey at WSOY and performed in bands eventually leading the popular Mark McEvoy and the Marksmen. He was active in the community with Junior Achievement, Jaycees, Knights of Columbus, was on the board of the Glass Worker’s Union, and was a local Republican Precinct Committee Chairman. Mark also loved baseball and was an avid Cardinal fan, and he as very involved at Borg Warner Sports complex.
He was a member of Ss. James & Patrick Catholic Church and participated regularly in the Annual St. Patrick School Auction. Mark also loved to play any kind of cards.
He is survived by his wife, his daughters: Susan Renee Ferre (Scott) and Amy Kathleen McEvoy all of Decatur; sisters: Julia McEvoy (Michael) McComiskey of Brooklyn, New York, and Louise McMaster (Robert) of Cedar Rapids, IA. Mark is also survived by his one and only grandson, Joshua Ferre of Decatur; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, uncles and his beloved aunt, Margaret Rose Knox, and great aunt, Rose Ancene. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, March 20, 2014 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; vigil prayer service at 4:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 pm Friday, March 21, 2014 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic School or Good Samaritan Inn.
