Mark E. Meeks' Obituary
Markiko Mark Meeks, 34, of Springfield, formerly of Decatur, passed away Sunday, May 17 in his home.
Mark was born on November 5, 1974, the son of Evon Meeks and Charles Barnett. Mark accepted Christ at an early age at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, and later transferred his membership to the Ebenezer Baptist Church. His friends knew him best as “Big Luke” and anyone who met Mark knew that he never met a stranger and that he was never without a smile on his face. Mark loved classic cars, tennis shoes and his family and friends and was studying auto body repair at Lincoln Land College to fulfill his lifelong dream of working on and restoring cars.
Mark is survived by his mother, Evon Robinson; special step-father, Ken Robinson; brothers: Kenny Robinson, Ray Robinson, Charles Barnett Sr., Charles Barnett Jr., Brandon Barnett and Charlie Barnett; sisters: Debbie Barnett, and Jaleela Singleton; aunts: Delores Smalls Mack, Elease Meeks, Sherley Tyus, Dorothy Edwards Isaac, Christine Owens Orville, Ruthie Singleton Roosevelt, Ada Owens, and Carrie Wells; uncles: Earl Meeks, Percy Meeks Jeanette and Rudolph Meeks Geraldine; a host of nieces and nephews, including Jacobe Robinson; cousins: Sam Owens, Byron Owens, Deatres Harden, Darnell Wilson, Sherell Wilson, Marvis Houston Willie, Orlando Owens Keturah, Tanikia Meeks, Billy Tyus, Randy Meeks, Josh and Mya Houston, Greg and Christina Owens, Corey Ford, Gerome Ford, Anthony Meeks, Sherley Meeks and Jason Meeks, Desmond Taylor and Tyrone Taylor; special aunt and uncle, Shirley and George Jackson; special babysitter, Debra Bond; special friends: Marcus Currie, Marcus Taylor, Derrick Taylor, Marcus O’Neil, Scott Cook, Juantorio Morton and Anthony Graves; grandparents, Percy Meeks Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Robinson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 240 N. Edward St. in Decatur with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. and lasting until the beginning of the service. Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
Mark was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Mattiel Meeks; great grandmother, Gussie Jackson and uncles: Melvin Rawls and William Tyus.
