Marvin Gene 'Pot' Whitfield, 63, of Decatur departed this life on Wednesday July 17, 2013 in Decatur Memorial Hospital and presences of his loved ones.
Marvin was born January 30, 1950 in Decatur, IL the son of Luther Whitfield and Flora Campbell. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church in Decatur and gave his life to Christ two years ago. He married Eddie Pearl Russell in Decatur. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He had worked for Norfolk and Western Rail Road, Wagner's Castings, Ambassador Hotel, C.B. & Q. and was also a mechanic.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Eddie Pearl; sons, Marvel Yanders (Zelma) of Decatur; Marvin Graves (Pat) of Springfield; Earl Graves (Felecia) of North Carolina; Marcus Graves of New Jersey; Marlita Crowder (Alex) of Decatur; Shanette Carothers of Huston, TX; Denise Johnson of Decatur; brothers, Delbert Campbell of Huston, TX; Lester Whitfield (Barbara) of Decatur; Gregory Whitfield (Demetria) of Huston, TX; Ronnie Whitfield of Tennessee; Norris Watson of Peoria; Ricky Whitfield of Decatur; sisters, Patricia Davie of Indianapolis, IN; Delores Ousley of Chicago; Elonda Whitfield of Peoria; Juanita Whitfield of Decatur; special aunt, Dorothy Harris of Decatur; special cousins, Roosevelt Harris of Texas; Kim Harris of Texas; Sabrina Moss of Decatur; 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Robert Johnson, twin brother Melvin and 5 other siblings.
The family would like to thank Dr. Konda, Dr. Guaglianone, Dr Sobol, Dr Still, and DMH nurses, Home Care, and Hospice for all their care.
Homegoing Celebration will be 11 AM Thursday, July 25, 2013 in Life Changers Church, 1305 E. Prairie Ave. Decatur, IL 62521 with Bishop G.E. Livingston officiating. Visitation will be 5 – 7 PM Wednesday in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard and conclude with the 'Flight Home' Ceremony.
