Mary Alice Brenner's Obituary
Decatur – Mary Alice Brenner, 87, of Decatur, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2015 in her home with her family at her side.
Mary Alice was born September 1, 1928 in Lafayette, Indiana, the daughter of Walter and Lillian (Lynch) Best. She was a 60 plus year member of Mound Chapel Church Of God where she was very active and member of the Ladies Auxiliary Military Order of the Purple Heart. She was the craft director for Bible School and was the teacher of the Sunbeam Sunday School Class for many years to name a few of the activities she was involved in. Mary Alice worked in the lunchroom at Stephen Decatur High School. She also volunteered a lot of her time in numerous nursing homes and rehabilitation hospitals. Mary Alice married Gordon Layton Brenner on August 24, 1946 and he preceded her in death on July 4, 1991. Also preceding her in death are her parents and 2 brothers.
Surviving are her children: Kathleen P. (James) Freeman of Decatur, Gordon C. (Diane) Brenner of Decatur, Sandra L. (Tom) Brown of Lovington, Darrell L. Brenner of Decatur, Faith Anne Brenner of Decatur, Kindra K. (Joel) Garrett of Decatur and Kristie R. (Doug) Smith of Lovington; 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 5 to 8 pm in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Services to celebrate her life will be 10 am Friday, October 9, 2015 at Mound Chapel Church Of God, visitation one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial with “Flight Home” Ceremony will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mound Chapel Church Of God.
