Mary Matthews' Obituary
Mary Matthews, 82, of Decatur, entered into eternity on Wednesday February 3, 2016, in Decatur Rehabilitation.
“I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
Services to celebrate Mary’s life will be 1p.m. Friday, February 12, 2016 at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, 2801 N. Monroe Street, Decatur IL 62526. Visitation will be one hour prior to services, and interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
Mary Matthews was born into the union of Curtis Matthews and Alice Weatherall Matthews on July 6, 1933 in Decatur, Illinois. Mary Matthews attended District 61 and graduated from Stephen Decatur High School. She worked at Durfee Elementary School at a early age as a teacher assistant and became a part of F.W. means (Ara Mark) in 1969 with 26 years of service and the retiring in 1995.
She begin her walk with Christ at an early age, where she trusted in the Lord and relied on him for all things. She was a true, strong prayer warrior. She served faithfully on the Motherboard at Bright Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, along with various positions at the church, until the decline of her health.
She leaves to cherish and celebrate her life and not to mourn: Her loving daughters, Alice Wadlington Matthews (Bernard), Julie Matthews; sons, Charles Matthews (Christine) William Matthews, Harvey, Lloyd Edward, John and Lowdois Dozier; sister. Roberta Matthews; brothers, Earl Welford (Tasha), Robert Ambrosel (Betty), Kenneth Ambrose (Sheila) , Darnell Ambrose (Joyce); granddaughters, Lakisha Matthews and Lakeya Matthews (Troy), Shaylae Dupris; grandsons, Clarence Maine Matthews, Tyris Matthews (Teresa) and Myris Matthews (Shanisha), Brandon Anderson, Marcus Walker, and a host of great-greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. A special friend, Eunice Singleton and Herbert TJ Jackson Jr. (Paulette).
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters, three daughters, and one grandson.
The family would like to thank all the staff from Eagle Ridge, Decatur Rehab, and Cancer Care Center for all their services.
