Mary K. Nolan's Obituary
Decatur-Mary K. Nolan, 64, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Mary was born November 18, 1950 in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Henry A. and Mary G. (Rork) Nolan. She graduated from St. Teresa High School and attended Fontbonne University and St. Louis University. She was previously employed as a cosmetologist and teacher with the Tom Nolan Academy, makeup artist with Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis, and an excellent caregiver to the elderly in Springfield. Mary was a member of the St. Louis Basilica and National Hairdressers Association. She served as a tour guide for the St. Louis Basilica and for Blessed Sacrament in Springfield. She was an avid poet. She wrote many poems. Mary got her love of poetry from her brother, Jerry.
Mary leaves behind her brothers Patrick Nolan, Michael Nolan and wife Kathy, Thomas Nolan, and Gerald Nolan, sister-in-law Jody Nolan, nieces and nephews Amy Conkling and husband Doug, Kelly Roepke and husband Kevin, Colleen Horn, Erin Swingler and husband Donnie, Beth Nolan-Larcher and husband John, Patrick Nolan and wife Courtney, Katie Dickerman and husband Jason, Timothy Nolan, Kaitlin Nolan, and Keely Nolan, and sixteen great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mary was reunited in Heaven with her parents and brothers Daniel and Timothy Nolan.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Mary’s best friend and college roommate Judy Burch and very special friend and caregiver Linda Young.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Mary’s life will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2160 North Edward Street, Decatur, with Rev. Rick Weltin, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Teresa High School or Heritage Behavioral Health.
