Mary Helen Smith's Obituary
Decatur – Mary Helen Smith, 88, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Mary was born December 7, 1928 in Decatur the daughter of Frank H. and Helen C. (Moran) Penney. She was a charter member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church where she volunteered for many activities including the Visitation and Funeral Committees. Mary attended Millikin University where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Social Sorority. She worked as a secretary for Decatur Mental Health Center, St. Teresa High School and Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Mary married William P. Smith, Sr., October 23, 1948 and he preceded her in death May 17, 1997. Also preceding her in death are her parents.
Surviving are her children: William P. (Mary) Smith, Jr., of Webster Groves, MO, Nancy L. (Harvey) Schrenk and Dennis F. (Corrie) Smith of Springfield, Stephen G. (Amy) Smith of Ashburn, VA, Stephenie A. (Chris) Gold of West Columbia, SC, and Jon M. (Sharon) Smith of O’Fallon, MO; fifteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate her life will be 11 am, Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Rev. Richard Weltin, celebrant. Visitation will be two hours before the service in the church. Burial will follow the Mass in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Church or St. Teresa High School.
