Mary Charity Thimens' Obituary
Mary Charity Thimens, 92, of Findlay, died Wednesday, September 24, 2008 in her home.
Mary was born April 07, 1916, in Paris, Illinois, the daughter of Cleve and Minerva Mershon Haws. She married Robert S. Thimens on August 16, 1941 in Concordia Lutheran Church, St. Louis, MO and he preceded her in death on January 20, 2001.
Because of Roberts work building refineries, their family lived in many states, including five years in Venezuela, before the family settled in Decatur in 1954 when Robert was hired by Caterpillar. Mary worked several jobs in the Decatur area but was mostly a wife and mother to her three children. She and her husband did a lot of charity work and were well thought of in the community.
Robert was an accomplished musician; therefore, he and Mary would attend many events in and around Decatur where Robert would play. Mary, herself was artistic and very creative. She and her husband designed and built there own house near Findlay on the edge of Lake Shelbyville in 1973. She lived in that same house until the day she died.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia A. Bill Norkunas of Arkansas; sons: Charles R. Thimens of Findlay and Ted L. Thimens of Decatur; grandchildren: Jennifer L. Tony Gawenda of Streamwood, IL, Robert S. Thimens of Ft. Collins, CO, and Todd Lee Thimens of Princeton, IL; sister, Ruby Harry Cook of Decatur; brothers: Benny Marilyn Haws and Jimmy Haws of Decatur.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 am with funeral services to follow at 11 am, Saturday, October 4, 2008 at the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
