Mary Joan Tirpak's Obituary
Decatur – Mary “Joan” Tirpak, 89, of Decatur, IL, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village, Springfield.
Joan was born March 12, 1929 on a farm outside Witt, IL, the daughter of Carl Christopher and Mary Grace (Marty) Adermann. She grew up on farms in the Ramsey area until her family moved to Assumption in 1937. Joan was a member of the last graduating class of Huber Memorial Hospital’s nursing school in Pana (1950). She worked as an RN at Decatur Memorial Hospital and St. Vincent Memorial Hospital in Taylorville. She was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur; she served in their Legion of Mary and as an extraordinary minister, both at Mass and on visits to shut-ins. She was also a member of the Macon County Home Extension.
Mary married Michael George Tirpak on October 4, 1958 in Assumption; he preceded her in death on January 14, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Mary Anne and Susan Joan; and one brother, Carl Thomas Adermann. She is survived by her son, Michael Christopher Tirpak of Springfield; sister, Susan Bernardine Lamb of Normal; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, October 22, 2018, at Holy Family Catholic Church; visitation will be one hour before the Mass. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Assumption. Memorials may be made to the Mary Anne Tirpak Scholarship Fund, Holy Family School.
