Mary Elizabeth Welsh's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Welsh, 92, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015 in Fairhavens Christian Home, surrounded by her family.
Mary was born February 6, 1923 in Decatur, to George M. and Anna (Blank) Bruder, Sr. She married Howard “Bud” William Welsh on September 7, 1942 in Decatur. He passed away July 17, 1977. She worked at Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals for 16 years. Mary was a member of St. James Catholic Church, St. Elizabeth Society at St. James Catholic Church and a former Troop #18 Cub Scout Leader. Mary loved to crochet especially with the Concordian Lutheran Church ladies. She was a great roller skater in her younger years.
She is survived by four children, Mike (Terry) Welsh of Thonotosassa, FL, Thom (Sowling) Welsh of Decatur, Dale Welsh of Gwinn, MI and Debbie (John) Frey of Decatur; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, George (Betty Ann) Bruder of Decatur and one sister, Georgeanna Scammahorn of Decatur.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; her son, Carl Francis Welsh and four sisters.
A mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2015, at St. James Catholic Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family would like to request casual attire for services. Memorials may be directed to Ss. James and Patrick Catholic Church.
The family would like to give special thanks to Father John Burnett of Ss. James and Patrick Catholic Church, Safe Haven Hospice, Chaplains at St. Mary’s Hospital, the 6th floor nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital and the nursing staff at Fairhavens Christian Home for their care and support.
